Interesting start to the day there, but it soon leveled out into some old favorites:

Well, it's coming up on the end of the year, and I have yet to put my annual "best of" together. In the meantime, I thought it prudent to share three mixes that I put together over the course of this past year. Taken together they form the soundtrack that has carried me through the year, touching on moments both endearing and best left in the past. I will be featuring this trilogy over the coming week, and to kick things off is a remnant of last New Year's...

And... it's back! Albums In The Day lives, and (hopefully) we can keep chugging along this time...

Gravity Kills - Gravity Kills (1996)

It's hard for me to listen to Gravity Kills and not think of David Fincher's classic film Se7en, which featured GK's first single "Guilty" quite prominently. Granted I was more intrigued by the remix of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" that played over the opening credits of that movie, but the mood and edge of "Guilty" fit in rather well with the gritty noir feel of the movie, especially with Kevin Spacey's "John Doe" character. After months of being inundated with "Guilty" on the radio and MTV GK finally released their first full length, and for the most part did not disappoint. While some may have found the mock industrial stylings of GK and Stabbing Westward to have been far too lame and opportunistic in light of all the press and popularity NIN was enjoying at the time, I thought they did a pretty damn decent job making angry synth-driven growlers that all them angsty kids (myself included) could rock out to. Nothing revolutionary, but effective nonetheless.

Give it a try:
"Guilty"
"Blame"
"Enough"
"Goodbye"
"Hold"
